Mediation

Mediation is a form of dispute resolution, providing an alternative to court for couples who have decided to divorce or separate, or have other family law issues -such as where the children live – that need to be resolved .

Although  you will be supported throughout by our Family Law team, there are no lawyers involved in the discussion: it’s just you and a neutral mediator, discussing how you want the future to look for yourselves, and your family.

Mediation is generally a quicker, less painful, more cost-effective and more creative alternative to court, especially if children are involved.   Advanced forms of mediation can involve a specially trained mediator speaking directly to children, “shuttle” mediation, where you are not actually in the same room as the other party, and some can actually have the lawyers at the mediation.

Mediation is not appropriate in every case, and it may not work if both parties have not been properly prepared for it. Our Family Law team will look carefully at your situation and help you decide if  it is the right option for you. If  you would rather not talk directly to your partner, even with a mediator present, you might prefer to consider collaborative law.

To discuss any aspect of family law, please contact us and one of our Family Law specialists will be happy to help.
